 Academic WorldQuest is back for 2010!

 

 

Academic WorldQuest is a fast-paced game in which competing teams of four test their knowledge of world affairs, geography, history, culture, countries, current events and more. It provides a unique opportunity for students in our community to expand their horizons while representing their schools. The winner of the World Affairs Council of San Antonio's Academic WorldQuest competition proceeds onto the national WorldQuest competition in Washington, D.C.

WHEN  and WHERE?
FEBRUARY  9, 2010
12pm—3:30pm
Our Lady of the Lake University


WHAT?
This is a team competition. There will be 4 rounds; ach round will have multiple choice questions. A prominent moderator will present these questions. Teams then confer to reach a single answer. Each round is thematically different from other rounds.

Academic WorldQuest is a team game quizzing high schools students knowledge on the following areas of focus for the 2010 national competition:

1. Country Focuses: The Islands of the Caribbean & The Sultanate of Oman
(Teams will be asked questions regarding the politics and socio-economics of these regions)

2. People and Places in the News
(follow news from early December until competition day)

3. Global Topics
(World Cup, Pandemics, Genocide, International Migration Trends, Food Production and Consumption, and World Music)

4. Great Decisions 2009
(An in-depth look into eight crucial issues of our times: The US & Rising Powers, Egypt in the 21st Century, Afghanistan & Pakistan, Global Food Supply, Energy & the Global Economy, Cuba After Castro, The Arctic Age, and Universal Human Rights)
*Great Decisions 2009 topics and study material will be provided upon registration.
